Employee Spotlight: Mohamed Waseem

The Employee Spotlight blog highlights team members across departments and roles that contribute to our guests’ unforgettable stays from behind-the-scenes. Mohamed Waseem, Senior Housekeeping Supervisor at Champa Central Hotel is one such team member, who first joined the Crown & Champa Resorts group in 2008.

Born and raised on Vaikaradhoo Island in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Maldives, Waseem completed his Diploma in Hospitality Management in 2015. He joined the leading hospitality group through Veligandu Island Resort & Spa in March 2008, as Room Attendant and was promoted to Housekeeping Supervisor only 2 years later. In December 2016, Waseem then joined the modern and conveniently located Hotel as Senior Housekeeping Supervisor.

Waseem mentions that when he first joined in 2008, he had been referred by a friend who spoke highly of Crown & Champa Resorts and the opportunity for career growth in the hospitality industry of the Maldives. He adds that over the years, especially during his sponsorship studies, he had enjoyed working at Champa Central Hotel.

“When I was completing my sponsorship studies, I had to work in Champa Central Hotel from time to time. I would always ask the General Manager to transfer me here once I complete my studies and since then, I feel very happy to be here.”

In the Housekeeping Department, Waseem assists the Executive Housekeeper at a supervisory level and ensures that all team members complete tasks and perform according to the set standards. Together, the Housekeeping Department ensures that guests’ rooms and experiences are consistently up to standard. When asked what the most important aspect of his work is, he says, ‘In order to meet the guest satisfaction standards, it is very important to be attentive to details while you are working in Housekeeping.’

He recalls one of the best compliments he had received for his work as the genuine surprise and happiness from the Maldives National Football Team’s Coach, Mr. Petar Segrt, who stayed at Champa Central Hotel for his birthday. The Housekeeping team arranged a beautiful bed decoration, which was met with the widest smile. Waseem adds, ‘He was very surprised and happy! He met me personally and we took a picture together.”

Photography is one of Waseem’s passions and he finds that having a keen eye for the best pictures enhances his capabilities while on duty as well. ‘I tend to look into details while inspecting rooms,’ he says – highlighting the need to be detail oriented in both Housekeeping and Photography. One of his motivations to continue working and growing his career is the Champa Central Hotel team, which he regards as family.

“To those who are interested in hospitality industry, I would say Crown & Champa Resorts is the best company to grow with. It will give you many opportunities, train you, educate you and help build your career.”
