In an interview with Mariyam Sukaina, Assistant Events Manager at Champa Central Hotel, learn more about the beautiful events that we host, from memorable Roof Top weddings to business functions and all your social events in between.
Being a Maldivian, Mariyam Sukaina was born in India and raised in both Male’ & India. Her career started as a Receptionist of Meeru Island Resort & Spa in 2009, after completing her International Hotel Management Diploma. Suki has been working for Crown and Champa Resorts for 8 years in total and has been at Champa Central Hotel since 2016.
Do you have a favorite spot at the Hotel? If yes, where?
Of course! The Rooftop restaurant is my favourite spot. It is relaxing to see the sunset and when you are on the rooftop, it doesn’t feel like you are actually in the middle of the city.
Describe your normal day at Sales & Marketing Department?
A normal day for me starts after the HOD meeting, and then I check all my emails, phone calls and assist my clients to fulfill their requirements, whether it is weddings, birthday parties or even corporate events. I also handle the sales of events too, continuously making sure that we stand out among all our competitors.
Name 3 memorable events hosted at CCH?
Well it is hard to say, as we have had so many beautiful events and every single event has its own special and unique ideas. Still, if I have choose, it would be Children’s Day Celebration with Autism Association, New Year’s Eve Night of 2016 and the first wedding and birthday party held at Champa Central Hotel.
Tell us about Roof Top weddings at Champa Central Hotel.
We opened up our rooftop for wedding tea parties, as it is the perfect outdoor location in Male’ city to organize a dream outdoor wedding. Weddings are usually held almost at the time of sunset between 1700 till 1900. We give one part of rooftop on Menu price & give client the option to hire the full rooftop with an additional charge. And we now provide the upper part of our rooftop for Wedding Dinners and the venue can cater to 100 – 200 people per wedding. The venue is in high demand at the moment.
CCH was home to the Maldivian Idols finalists, what was it like?
Hosting the Maldivian Idol Finalists from Top 16 till the Top 3 was a great opportunity. It was a good PR for us, but the most important thing was getting to know each and every contestant personally, speaking to them, knowing their concerns and watching them grow professionally and, of course, you get to listen to live music in-house, inside the restaurant and other areas in the Hotel. All the contestants were well mannered and we are proud to have accommodated them.

We try our best to meet the client’s needs during any event providing them with the best quality service. I usually meet with the clients and try to build a friendly bond with so that they feel comfortable sharing their requirements with me anytime during the day. Our operational team for events (Service team and Kitchen team) does exceptional work and helps me to reach my clients’ expectations.
